Spurs hoping for top-half finish

8:14am Saturday 10th May 2008

SPURS have one more game in which to clinch a top-half position in the Premier League table.

The Lilywhites host Liverpool at White Hart Lane on Sunday, looking to end a disappointing league campaign on a high.

But a win might not even be enough to secure tenth spot, should West ham United gain all three points in their final game against Europe-chasing Aston Villa.

Tottenham fans, at the beginning of the season, might have been forgiven for thinking they would be chasing more at this stage, but that is all the Lilywhites now have to play for.

Juande Ramos wants his troops to finish as high as possible, and the fact close rivals West Ham are the club that stand in their way of a top-half berth, will make Sunday's game just that bit more important.

However, three points will not hide what has been a huge disappointment. After successive fifth-place finishes, many hoped Spurs would be challenging the big four this season.

If it had not been for the Carling Cup triumph, and a spirited run in the Uefa Cup, this would have been a season of massive under-achievement.

The Reds come to the Lane having secured fourth position. It means only pride is at stake.

Kick off at White Hart Lane is 3pm.
