Hertford 137 a/o
Bishop’s Stortford 138-3
(HCPCL Division Two)
BISHOP'S Stortford enjoyed an emphatic seven-wicket win over Hertford to consolidate second place in Division Two.
The bowlers were in particularly impressive form, as Glenn Querl and Steve Coleman combined to rip the heart out of their hosts' batting line-up.
It was Darren Whittingham who got the ball rolling for the visitors however as he removed opener Wade after Hertford had elected to bat first.
A determined knock of 68 from star man Dias threatened to scupper Stortford's hopes of victory, but the decision to bat first soon backfired as Querl (4-16) and Coleman (3-36) got to work.
The latter claimed the prize wicket of Dias while the former accounted for three of the top five batsmen, leaving Hertford reeling.
They were eventually blown out for a meagre 137, leaving Stortford with a comfortable total to chase.
There were a couple of early scares as the stand-in opening pair of captain David Hughes and Luke Fishpool were removed by Dias.
They were deputising for Matt Surry and Luke Padgett, and when Querl followed shortly after to the same bowler, things began to look bleak.
But Eddie Ballard (55 not out) and Simon Coleman (41 not out) turned things around with an excellent stand of 110 and the pair finished the job for the away side in the 35th over.
