Hawks draw tricky opening league fixture

FOOTBALL

HARLOW face a tough opening-day encounter with Sutton United when the 2008-9 Ryman Premier season kicks off next month.

Paul Doswell’s charges were relegated from the Blue Square South last season and they travel to Barrows Farm on Saturday, August 16. Kick-off is at 3pm.

The game is the first of three tricky fixtures for the Hawks in the first eight days of the new term.

Following their home start, Ryan Kirby's men will face last season’s fellow relegation battlers Maidstone on Saturday 23.

Then two days later, last campaign’s Ryman division one north champions Dartford will provide the opposition for the club’s second home game on Monday 25.

Mouthwatering derbies with AFC Hornchurch have been set-up for the Christmas period and on Easter Monday.

The Hawks host their bitter rivals the day after Boxing Day, with the reverse fixture taking place at Bridge Avenue on Monday, April 13.
